Magical MisperceptionsgrMM6X9

Young Prince Lee can’t talk to girls at all until he meets Jona Haever. His aunt, Queen Gaia, invites Jona to the castle for the summer to help Lee learn social graces. Although Her Majesty makes it clear Jona is no better than a servant, Jona and Lee become best friends. When the summer comes to a close, the two continue to correspond through a pair of magical boxes conjured by the Wizard Farland. Nine years later, Jona and Lee are closer than ever, but any romantic feelings between them are forbidden by law. Are the differences between a prince and a commoner too large to overcome, or are they just a matter of magical misperception?

Whimsical Tendencies

Although she has no memories before the quake that destroyed the kingdom of Augury, Cypher McCall holds a steadfast hatred of the repressive Cauldian regime now ruling the country. Because her magical gifts are deemed subversive, she does her best to avoid detection. Unfortunately for Cypher, however, she’s too beautiful to ignore. After a Cauldian contingent arrives in her hometown, a chance encounter leaves her repulsed by the arrogant Prince Ewan and attracted to his distant cousin, Lord Joss.

When she learns Prince Ewan plans to tear down the ruins of nearby Castle Augur, Cypher vows to stop him. Although handsome Lord Joss tries to protect her from his vindictive cousin, Cypher can’t bring herself to trust the enemy. At the same time, nightmares and dreams nudge her toward reclaiming childhood memories. She stumbles on a silver key that she hopes will unlock her past, but first she must confront a long repressed horror at the Castle Augur ruins.

Will the knowledge of Cypher’s true identity tear her apart or will it empower her to restore everything she ever loved?

Tournament of Chance: Dragon Rebel • #SALE •

TOCDRSGRThe king tried to kill her. Now it’s her turn to repay the favor.

For years, Heather dedicated herself to winning a tournament that turned out to be a sham. Worse, by revealing the truth, she becomes a hunted enemy of the king. Well, two can play that game. The skills she’s honed as an archer are the exact ones she’ll use to level the playing field…and this time she has shape-shifting dragons on her side.

Tournament of Chance: Dragon Rebel is on sale (from $2.99 to $0.99) this week, through September 24th. (US & UK only)

Excerpt:

Suddenly a flock of birds rose from a rocky shelf down below and streaked toward the dragons in a hostile mass. As the birds drew closer, Heather gasped. “Those aren’t birds, they’re flying reptiles!”

“Uh-oh,” Manny said.

“Boratures. They are very dangerous,” Shimmer said.

“Those must be nesting grounds,” Joe called out. “Go faster.”

The boratures were the size of sheep, with a tough hide covering their impressive wingspan. Their long and narrow heads ended with pointed beaks that appeared to be unpleasantly sharp. Heather guessed their long talons were equally lethal. She shuddered to think what they would do to her skin. Although the creatures were far smaller than dragons, they numbered in the hundreds. Even worse was the incredible speed with which the boratures were closing in from behind. Forced to split apart, Shimmer and Manny headed straight up, and Dane angled lower.

“Hold very tight, Heather. I’ll lose them in the trees.”

She flattened herself against Dane’s neck as he hurtled through the forest. Unfortunately, the boratures overtook him and began to claw at his wings. As their vicious talons opened gash after gash in Dane’s hide, he flinched. With a keening cry and a barrel roll, he shot upward once more. Heather’s grip loosened, and then she could hold on no longer.

Thick foliage slapped her in the face as she descended through the trees. A vine briefly broke her fall, but she continued downward when it snapped. Finally her desperate fingers found purchase on a leafy branch. She dropped down to the next branch, and so on, until she managed to reach the ground.

Stunned and dazed, a sharp pain in her midsection made it difficult for her to breathe. Cuts and scratches marked her flesh everywhere, and something warm and wet was trickling down her face. Shaking badly, her knees finally gave way. Several minutes passed before she calmed down enough to assess her situation. Of one thing she was absolutely certain; Dane wasn’t coming back and she was on her own.

Excerpt • The Dragon Rider’s Daughter

drdcoveridea6smallShe turned to discover the wizard had her sketchbook in his hands and was peering at her drawing. Her cheeks suddenly felt extraordinarily warm.

“Oh…I, um, just thought you and the puppy looked sweet together.”

He shot her a dark glance. “You should have asked my permission before drawing my portrait.”

“I didn’t want to wake you.” Humiliated beyond measure, Minna hastened to take the sketchbook from him. “Honestly, there’s no reason to be so sensitive. I didn’t mean any harm.”

His chin lifted. “I don’t much like being stared at when I’m dozing, thank you very much!”

Her temper flared. “Really? I had the impression you enjoy being stared at all the time.”

A muscle in his jaw quivered. “That’s my cue to go. If you’ll excuse me, I’ll get my coat.”

As he strode into the kitchen, Minna felt a pang of genuine remorse. Just because he’d caught her admiring him was no reason for her to be so churlish.

Evan returned, wearing his coat. “Thank you for the hot chocolate, Miss Westerfield. I’ll see myself out.”

“Wait.” She tore the sketch from the sketchbook, folded it into a square, and pressed it into his hands. “I’m sorry for being rude just now…and for disturbing your privacy.”

His expression softened. “I probably overreacted.”

“You didn’t. No hard feelings, I hope.”

“Of course not.” He gave her a crooked grin. “I was embarrassed to be caught sleeping, if you want to know the truth. What with all the thunder, I didn’t sleep well last night.” He tucked the folded paper into his coat pocket. “Listen, it’s none of my business, but with magical abilities like yours, it’s a shame you don’t use them openly.”

She feigned puzzlement. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“You don’t have to pretend.”

Any remorse she’d felt at her incivility shriveled up. “You’re right. It’s none of your business.”

Without warning, the wizard slid his arm around her waist and pulled her close. The hair on her forearms and the back of her neck rose. Unbidden, her gaze was drawn to his full lips.

“W-What are you doing?”

He looked at her askance. “Come on, Miss Westerfield. Can’t you feel the electricity between us?”

“I don’t know what you mean.” Shaken, she took a step back.

“We both have goose bumps.” He pointed at her bare forearms. “A wizard can sense magic, especially when it’s as powerful as yours.”

“You’ve overstepped the mark, Mr. Valentine.”

“I don’t think I have.” He raised one of his eyebrows. “Furthermore, I bet I’m not the only one who enjoys being stared at.”

She gave him a level glance. “You’re rather conceited, Mr. Valentine. Don’t get struck by lightning on your way out.”

Evan chuckled. “Oh, I was struck by lightning years ago, when we first met.”

“But we’ve never met.”

A flicker of disappointment crossed his features. “I didn’t think you’d remember.”

New Name, New Upcoming Release

All my releases from now on will bear my full name, Suzanne G. Rogers, and I hope to have my entire backlist updated on 1/1/16. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the process goes smoothly, but I have Amazon’s number on hand in case it doesn’t! That being said, I’m releasing a new romantic fantasy novella, Whimsical Tendencies, in December.

Whimsical Tendencies began as a short story, published by MuseitUp Publishing as Cypher. I rewrote the manuscript, nearly doubling the size in the process. The tale includes wizards, magical plants, ghosts, the living, the dead, and things in between. It’s available for pre-order now, for a December 11th release (just in time for Christmas).
