In the spirit of Black Friday, I’m offering my book Kira as a free Kindle download HERE.
Blurb: Poisoned by an enemy, a young warrior struggles to find an antidote before she succumbs to enslavement. At the same time, she’s desperate to save Dorsit, a Leopard Clan wizard whose youth and magic has been stolen by a murderous wizard on a rampage. As Kira’s homeland is invaded by bloodthirsty legions, she flees across the country in a bid to reach the Mirrum Mountain nymphs and a legendary cure. Hunted by shadow hounds, Cyclopes, and an evil jinn, will her wits and skill as a warrior be enough to survive?
Kira directed Myst onto the main thoroughfare connecting the east and west borders of Nomad Territory. Although the road was deserted at present, local farmers and merchants would soon arrive as they delivered goods to Wyckcrest Village marketplace. The early morning air seemed to energize Myst, but Kira kept her to a fast walk. With such a long way to go, she didn’t want the horse to tire too quickly. A week’s ride lay ahead of her as she journeyed toward the eastern mountain range. Then, after she reached the river, her route would turn south for another three or four days.
Her growling stomach reminded Kira she’d not yet eaten. Just as she reached toward her saddlebag, two unsavory men leaped into the road with swords drawn. She reined Myst in. “Step aside.”
“Hand over your money bag, lass, and we won’t hurt ye.”
Kira sighed inwardly, even as her hand moved inside her jacket. “I’ve no wish to kill you before breakfast. Toss your swords to the ground and back away.”
The men exchanged a glance and laughed. After a moment, Kira joined in—which bewildered the robbers at first, but then made them angry. No sooner had they stepped toward her when she hurled a pair of throwing knives. The men crumpled to the dirt, clutching their throats. Too late, she saw a third highwayman armed with a bow and arrow, perched in a tree.
